Your Partner in Mental Health
Are you struggling to deal with overwhelming emotions or mood swings? Is it difficult to feel present in your life and relationships? Do you feel stuck in unhealthy or unhelpful patterns but struggle to change them? You are not alone, and you have come to the right place. Having a supportive, experienced, and trauma-informed mental health clinician can help you break out of patterns that are no longer working for you and feel more in control of your life.
My name is Brittany Kesten (she/her). I am a queer and neurodivergent Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) in Washington state. I founded Balanced Behavioral Health, PLLC because I am passionate about increasing access to holistic, trauma-informed mental health care. I specialize in helping individuals understand and heal from past trauma and painful childhood experiences, including emotional abuse or neglect. Many of my clients have been diagnosed with or relate to symptoms of PTSD, cPTSD, or borderline personality disorder. I believe that an effective therapeutic relationship is a partnership; my role is to offer my support and clinical expertise, but YOU are the expert on yourself and your treatment will be based on your goals, preferences, and needs.
When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, hiking, and spending time with my wife and (many) pets. I love live music/theater, skiing, horror movies, and watching women’s soccer (go Reign!). I grew up in Alabama, and moved to Washington in 2021 where I immediately fell in love with this beautiful state and everything it has to offer. I live in central Washington but frequently spend weekends traveling throughout the state.

Comprehensive Care
At Balanced Behavioral Health, PLLC, we offer a comprehensive range of services to support your mental health journey. Our approach is holistic, focusing on the whole person rather than just the symptoms. We understand that each individual’s needs are unique, and we tailor our services accordingly.

Medication Management
Medication can play a crucial role in managing mental health issues. However, particularly with trauma-related concerns, medication alone is rarely sufficient to adequately manage symptoms. When indicated, I prescribe medication as an adjunct to therapy, ensuring that it complements and enhances the other strategies we are using. As I exclusively see clients via televisit currently, I do not prescribe any controlled medications (such as stimulant medications for ADHD or benzodiazepines for anxiety). If during the course of your treatment we determine that a controlled medication is needed, I will work with you to find provider local to you to assume care.

Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy forms the backbone of my practice. I have extensive training in various therapy modalities, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and parts work/Internal Family Systems (IFS). I use a flexible and person-centered approach, utilizing concepts from various trauma-informed modalities and adapting to your needs and preferences in order to provide the most effective care possible. I consult with my supervising therapist when indicated, and participate in my own weekly therapy as part of my ongoing personal and professional development.
What Sets Us Apart
Balanced Behavioral Health, PLLC is not your typical mental health clinic. We stand out for our holistic approach, specialized care, and commitment to inclusivity.

Holistic Approach
I believe in treating the whole person, not just the symptoms. This means I will consider all aspects of your life and health during our work together. I use a combination of medication management, psychoeducation, and therapy to ensure that you receive comprehensive care that addresses your mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Specialized Care
Trauma or disrupted attachment during childhood can affect everything from sleep to relationships to work or school performance. Common problems stemming from past trauma include difficulty regulating emotions, coping with stress, and building stable and rewarding relationships. My expertise in this area can help you understand yourself more deeply, cope with your symptoms in healthier ways, and build a sense of safety both internally and in relationships.

Inclusive Practice
I am proud to serve a diverse client base. As a neurodivergent clinician who is part of the LGBTQ+ community, I deeply understand the unique challenges that we face and strive to create a safe, welcoming environment where all feel welcome, understood, and supported.
